Candles Galore! OOAK & Unique Handmade

We are plowing right along (snow joke, sorry!) which brings us to candles. Big deal, right? You’ll think that until you see handmade candles, ranging from traffic cones to alien flowers. Here is a candle made to look like a cup of coffee (try to drink it, THAT would wake you up!) Wonder if they got the mix from this! Would look pretty on a table with this mousse candle or cupcake candle. There are also numerous “tarts,” which I imagine you place in those tiny crock-pot things. You can find tarts from rabbits to hershey’s kisses. Random nugget of knowledge: Dark rum, as opposed to white rum, won’t result in a hangover. Don’t forget to visit my shop & Facebook page.
While I’m not looking forward to more snow on Monday, if it comes, we will make snow ice cream, hot chocolate & chicken chili…actually will make the chicken chili anyway, as I’ve been craving it like nobody’s business!!

Steampunk Defined

Great news: our snow storms left, after dumping like a foot of snow, & we never lost power. Not so great news: more snow moving in Monday. Anyway, my shop relatively new to etsy, and I was surprised to see so many items listed as steampunk. Naturally, I googled it, which led me to wikipedia. Steampunk is defined as the future as Victorians may have imagined it, a subgenre of sci-fi. Mostly you will find surreal items under the steampunk category, amazing works of art. Steambaby has this nifty monocle & oldjunkyardboutique has an ooak sci-fi pistol. Natashamorgan created this eerie doll while urbandon has an abstract doll. Radusport created this shirt, oldeworldcc this one. There are literally tens of thousands results for the word “steampunk,” and each item reflects the artist’s unique view of what steampunk looks like. With so many results, it’s easy to find a steampunk style that suits you! Daily random nugget of knowledge: a hippo’s milk is bright pink. Who woulda thunk? PS be sure to visit my Facebook page!

Weather outside is frightful

My little part of Kansas is having blizzard conditions, so I figured better churn out this post before we lose power. As I mentioned yesterday, today we will be looking at quirky items from etsy. If you’re anything like me, the more bizarre the item, the louder that little voice gets, the one that says “This is awesome!!” Frankentoys has a doozy with the “puppy pocks.” As for Curioddities‘ nursing peanut…we may as well stop looking at strange items now, because there’s no way that can be topped! Calm down, I’m joking, & certain we can find more items. Houseofdarkly wants us to play with our food, while ZeeaDarling has a ring made from a computer keyboard! Lastly, Chickenhill will lovingly embroider you child’s artwork. (How neat is that!) Etsy is full of people who look at normal items & say “How can I improve on that?” I will admit to being one of them, as I love taking little toys & altering them. Some keywords worth searching for, if you decide to browse yourself, are: weird, strange, scary, odd, altered, upcycled, the list goes on. Now, I must salt the front steps so we don’t slip & crack our skulls. Which just reminded me of a news article about an ice remover made of vodka by-products. *Googling for a few seconds* There, if you didn’t know about Magic Salt, this blog made you a little bit smarter! If you’re getting slammed like we are, please be careful. Make sure your kids, pets, & neighbors (especially elderly) are warm & safe.
